Running Towards my Goals

I LOVE motivational quotes and these ones inspired me this week. What motivates you? BTW, for those of you following the Hayden teething Saga, thank you for all your kind words and support. He seems to have turned a corner with his teething and his temperament and appetite are back to normal. My hubby and I couldn't be more relieved!

My jogging stroller I found on Craigslist for $80!

Goodbyes...and a Workout

Today I do not say goodbye, but rather see you later and good luck to a friend and college. Over the past 9 years in my career I have worked with so many incredible people, some of which I mentor and some who mentor me. I feel lucky to work with diverse and talented people and have learned so much from all of them. Today I say goodbye to a team member after two and a half years. While I am sad to see him go, I am excited for him as he is being promoted internally and I know this is a huge opportunity in his career.

Now time for some fitness!

Todays workout included:

10 minutes HIIT {high intensity interval training} cardio on elliptical.
20 minutes steady pace cardio on elliptical

ARMS ~ the following is a dumbbell workout that I use 8LBS weights for

Lay down bench press
Standing bent over row
Standing shoulder press
Bicep curls
{do 3 sets of 10-12 reps of all the above}

On all fours triceps curl
{do 2 sets of 10-15 reps on each side}

Then I did a Pinterest workout! I do these everyday as they are interesting and challenging!

I did this x 2!
Now this is a pretty intense workout so don't overdo it. I am at the point where I love it and don't want to stop. I get excited as I see results and that continues to motivate me. What motivates you to work out.
*** Remember***
If it doesn't challenge you it won't change you!

Friday Fitness Fashion

Not only are these Nike Womens 3.0 on my wish list this year they are a must have. Unlike our precious pumps and peep toes that we are forever trying to preserve, you should wear out your running shoes/trainers. If your work out or run regularly they suggest every 3- 6 months. So hit the gym on the regular and you have a legitamite excuse to go shoe shopping...works for me!

The Wunder Under from Lululemo is quite possibly the most versitile pant ever, go from street style to yoga to evening in this butt-flattering legging! Yes, I said it... we can all thank Lulu for the extra boost in our behind ;)

Now that it's winter I find I'm running in the dark as I run before or after work. So it's important that I wear bright colours to increase visibility. If you can help it, run while it's still light or in a group and always wear light clothing. I'm crushing on the white and pink in this Mountain Equipment CO-OP jacket!

Marathon Mama!

A few weeks ago I accomplished a pretty incredible goal of mine. I ran a half marathon! I haven't always been a runner but since having a child I have come to love it. There are so many reasons I now look forward to a good run. As a busy, working mother and wife I have learned to truly value some hard earned "me" time! When I run I can put the stress of the day behind me. It's a chance to clear my head and take in the beauty that surrounds me. Not to mention I'm getting exercise!!! Bonus! Plus, when my hubby isn't home to watch Hayden while I run, I take him with me!

Life is so busy which makes it that much more important to find a physical activity that you enjoy. When my hubby isn't home to watch Hayden while I run, I take him with me! I am so happy that I found running. The feeling of pride overcame me when I completed my first half marathon. By the way...that's 13 miles/21 kms which I ran in 2 hours and 4 minutes! While I have no desire to ever do a full marathon and run for over 4 hours straight, I plan on doing one half marathon a year. I'm the kind of person who needs goals and achieving them only drives me more!

Early Riser...

As of lately I have been having a hard time finding the motivation to get up early enough to tackle my morning workout. I recently added a message to my alarm that is a little harder to ignore!

It's easy to do on your iPhone!

~ Go to alarm
~ Edit alarm
~ Select 'Label'
~ Type in whatever will motivate you to rise and shine!

I find when it a little harder to hit the snooze this way! I'd love to hear what motivating message works for you?

Beach Ready Toes

As a woman who has worn heels most of my life, averaging 50 hours a week at work alone, my feet have seen better days. I  don't write them off completely though.....with a little TLC they can be sandal ready in no time. Now I try to save my $ and do my pedicure at home and as a busy Mom the only time I really have to do my toes is in the evening.

Step 1
Give your feet a nice soak in some bath salts and oils to soften them. We should all do this more often whether your doing a full pedi or just in need of a post shift soak to relax those tired feet.
Step 2
Exfoliate. Take a pumice or foot file and gently slough off the dead skin to soften tough calluses. This can be messy so do it over a towel for easy clean up.
Step 3
Clip and shape toe nails and push cuticles back. Be careful not to clip too short as you need a decent nail surface to apply polish.
 Step 4
Paint with base coat,  2 x polish and top coat. I opt for all coats as toes must stand against, chlorine, sand and sun.

Now you are ready to bare all....your toes that is!!!

Food or Fitness?

We have a family vacation to Hawaii sneaking up on us! I can't help but shake in my boots at the thought of braving my bikini. This brings me to the dilemma of food or fitness? Many moms have a legitimate argument when it comes to working out, no time and I could plead my case also. However, I have found a happy medium. We have to eat right? Of course we do and by making healthy choices when it comes to diet we actually have more impact on our weight loss goals and can often afford to miss a workout or two. So the challenge begins to stick to a healthy & balanced diet.  This has always been a struggle for me as I have almost ZERO will power and I work in a restaurant! Talk about temptation! I have informed a few friends of my goals to keep me on the straight and narrow. Time to dust off the old elliptical to use while watching my shows and no more skipping meals. This isn't a fitness blog but I do believe in talking about what your set out to do as it helps to hold you more accountable for your actions.

Tomorrow I'll be back to all things mommy, fashion and so on, but tonight its time to work up a sweat! Pin It
