A Day in Food

So this may look like lots of food but I am all about lots of small meals. When your diet consists of tons of fruits and veggies you can load up and quit calorie counting. Yah!!!!

Plain oats, raspberries & splenda

Can you see the swan in my latte?

Scrambled eggs & egg whites with tomatoes & onions on mini corn tortillas.

Romaine, tomatoe, cucumber, avocado & chick pea salad. (brown baggin' it)

Carb free stir fry with chicken, bamboo, carrots, mushrooms, bean sprouts  & peas.

House and Home

We have always had a no candle rule at our house as my hubby is super paranoid. We both love the atmosphere a few candles can create so we were thrilled to receive some LED wax pillar candles from Mike's brother. They add warmth and comfort to our home and they aren't only child friendly but adult friendly also!   ~ Similar here.

My new best friend, thanks to my sis and her hubby, is my Keurig. Mike doesn't drink coffee so this is perfect as I don't have to brew a whole pot! You can pick these up almost anywhere!

Throw pillows can add texture, colour and life to an otherwise lonely sofa. * TIP* To save $ go to your local fabric store. Most stores sell covers in all sorts of fabrics for around $3 - $7.00 Then, simply stuff and "throw"! DIY coming soon!!!!

With Spring around the corner....hopefully sooner than later, I'm hoping to go beyond the usual spring clean and do so minor and cheap redecorating. Something as simple as rearranging your furniture can give your home a whole new feel.

A walk in the park

Hayden is at such a fun age. He is our little sponge repeating every word we say. We have a great routine for leaving the house...

The family boot line up.

Mom & Dad - "Hayden we are going to go now"
Hayden - " Go?! Car?!"
Mom & Dad - "Yes we are going to go in your car. Lets go down the stairs, count them"
Hayden - ".......two, two, fee, (silence for awhile) six, nine, nine, nine!" (2 and 9 are his favorite #'s)
Hayden - "sit, sit, shoes? boot?"
Mom & Dad - "Yes Hayden, sit and we'll put your shoes on"
Hayden - "coat?"
Mom & Dad - "Yes, let's put on your coat"
Hayden - "Go?! Car?!"
Mom & Dad - "Yes Hayden, it's time to go!"

Sisterly Love

I feel the need to share a secret. I have an incredible sister who is expecting! OK, it's not really a secret anymore! She is so amazing...she owns her own store where she sells previously loved goodies. Clothes, housewares and furniture that she refinishes just to name a few! She also makes her own hand bags and jewelry which she sells! To top it off she is an incredible cook! I always look forward to going to her house for dinner as I know I'm in for a treat!

Over the Hump

It's Thursday which makes me happy. I value my weekends so much now that we have our little family! The weekends are all about Hayden and I look forward to the local kids gym, play dates and more! This weekend I am going to start potty training so wish me luck!

Yam Fries

Yam fries are a favorite side at our house. They are healthy, delicious and my 2 year old will usually eat them! They are also pretty easy if you have time on your side.

~ peel yams
~ cut into even strips
~ pre~heat oven to 375 F
~ Soak in ice water for about 10 -30 minutes {depending on how much time you have}
~ toss in a little olive oil and salt...not too much of either!!
~ lay out evenly on lightly greased pan {I use olive oil}
~ bake for approx 35 minutes carefully turning over halfway through

That's it! If serving to children let them cool a bit as the inside can be very hot! Serve with your choice of dip. I make a garlic aioli.

~ mayo
~ garlic {dried or minced fresh}
~ a dash of hot sauce
~ ground pepper

DIY Dining Chair Upholstery

Our dining room chairs have been in need of new upholstery for some time now. I meant to do it before christmas but  never got around to it. Finally my hubby and I teamed up and did them before Hayden's birthday party this weekend. They turned out great and took under 2 hours!!

The finished product!

Before

Torn fabric...yuck!

Unscrew seat from chair.

Remove staples with needle nose pliers.

   Take off old fabric and use as a guide to cut new upholstery. I cut a little big, better safe than sorry! 

Staple upholstery on. Pull it tight, especially the corners!

You can add a sheer cover over top at this point. We used the same one from the old seat but I forgot to photograph it!

Screw the seats back on to the chairs and your done! We switched to a faux pebbled leather in dark brown. It created a modern, monochromatic look that I love! It will also make for easy clean up with a toddler!

Busy Week... Tired Feet

I gave my husband a gift certificate for a pedicure for Christmas and last night I was a little jealous. We were in bed and I asked him when he was going to use it? His response ...."I think I'll wait till my feet get really bad!" Did he seriously just say that? Only my husband! It's been a busy week, not at work particularly but the combination of all things in life right now. Between meetings at work, swim class, planning Hayden's 2nd birthday it's been a bit crazy. Needless to say I should have got is a couples pedicure or something! The end of the week is here and in an effort to save $ I will be giving myself a pedicure as seen here. While I love my weekends, I do enjoy the couple hours spent prepping for the week every Sunday night!

I have a 2 year old?!

Hayden turned two yesterday! I can't believe how fast the time has gone by! It reminds me with each year he gets older, so do I! We had his party today which was a lot of fun!
